Youngsters get to meet their Paralympic heroes
SOME special children were able to meet their Paralympic heroes, including gold medal winner Jonnie Peacock, at the recent Sainsbury's IPC Grand Prix athletics meeting in Birmingham.
Among the lucky children who were able to take part were Rio Woolf, Sofia Crockatt, Kayden Jeffery and Adam Biles with his brother Oliver, who have all been encouraged to participate in sport through LimbPower's Junior Games and 'Learn to Run' clinics.
Juliette Woolf, mum to five-year-old Rio said: 'We particularly liked seeing our 'differently-abled' children running on the sprint track in the Agility Area. Everyone watching applauded the kids as they ran down the track, it was very special.'
In addition to getting to run in front of an audience, the children got to meet Paralympic medallists from London 2012, including David Prince from the USA and Heinrich Popow of Germany, as well as Britain's own Jonnie Peacock and Hannah Cockroft.
The meeting came about after LimbPower supporter Zoe Goodman contacted UK Athletics to ask whether disabled children would be able to join the athletes on the track after the competition.
