University celebrates first cohort of Assistive Technology students
University celebrates first cohort of Assistive Technology students
THE first cohort of Foundation degree Assistive Technology students have graduated from Coventry University.
The graduates are support workers from various services across the country, including social care, telecare and specialist education. This has been assisted through the online delivery of the course, and the split between academic study and work-based learning.
Graduates have learned about the huge variety of assistive technologies available and how they can make a significant contribution to improving the health, wellbeing and choices of older people and those with long term conditions or disabilities.
They have also gained greater insight into the assessment processes involved which will enable them to match the person and technology more appropriately and therefore reduce costs to services which are accrued through abandonment.

Ottobock to champion best practice standards in people management
OTTOBOCK has been awarded the Champion Status from Investors in People for its delivery of best practice activities in people management.
This latest achievement follows the Egham based company reaching the framework's Gold Standard in 2012, which is designed to celebrate success beyond the normal level of recognition for well-run organisations.
As a Champion, Ottobock will continue working as an ambassador for the Investors in People framework.
"This outstanding achievement makes Ottobock one of the best Investors in People in the country," said John Telfer, managing director of Inspiring Business Performance Ltd, which delivers Investors in People for London and the South. "Being invited to become a Champion is an honour only bestowed upon organisations at the top of their game, and proves that Ottobock really has the advice and techniques to offer other companies trying to reach their potential."
During its implementation of the Investors in People structure Ottobock introduced a number of core initiatives aimed at improving staff and business performance. This includes conducting staff surveys, offering training and career development, and creating a Reward and Recognition Group that enables contact between staff and management.
